8 Unique & Romantic Valentine's Day Ideas

Roses, chocolates and dinner dates are all so sweet but can also be pretty cliché when it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day, especially if you and your special someone have been together for at least a few years now. Here are eight Valentine’s Day ideas for couples that may help keep things exciting and fresh.

EAT IN

I don’t know about you but feeling like I’m being rushed during dinner because there are other couples waiting to have their “special” Valentine’s Day dinner as well, is not the idea of romantic to me. When I was pregnant with our first baby, I insisted all I wanted to do was order pizza and watch a romantic movie at home. It was a perfect night. I don’t mean you have to order pizza, you can get fancy and order from your favorite restaurant just don’t disregard how romantic and perfect a night in can be. Which leads to second idea…

TURN UP THE ROMANCE

You ordered dinner, now light some candles, pull out a bottle of wine, pick a romantic movie you think you will both enjoy and enjoy your intimate Valentine’s Day date.

PLAY HOOKY

Once kids come in to the picture, a dinner date night may be just want you want but may not be that easy to schedule. Keeping the romance alive after kids, especially in the day to day, is sometimes a challenge but if your kids are in school or daycare, playing hooky to go on a Valentine’s Day daytime date is perfect! Your cuties are taken care of and you can both finally get some much needed time without the kids.

COUPLES MASSAGE

Relaxing together is always a good idea. Whether it’s for our birthdays, anniversary or whenever we feel we need a little quality time together, a couples massage is always a good idea for us. With so many options, you can go with anywhere from a 1-hour session together to a full day of pampering as a Spa day retreat like Spa Castle where you can enjoy massages, saunas, pools and even outdoor heated pools and hot tubs.

MUSEUM OF SEX

Keep it cultural and spend a day at a museum or art gallery. Make it more Valentine’s Day appropriate by choosing to go to the Museum of Sex and letting loose in their new exhibition: Super Funland.

14 DAYS OF LOVE NOTES… AND SEX

This one is more of an add-on. Why do you have to keep all the love rushed into one day? Spread a little extra loving throughout 14 days of leaving each other random love notes in unexpected places. To keep things spicy, add in 14 days of sex. We did it and there was one day in particular where finding his note switched my mood up completely. So much that I actually still have it up on the fridge.

It’s simple just leave notes about things you love about each other, things your grateful for, something you appreciate them for that day… you’d be surprised at how many little things you really love about somebody that you don't tell them quite enough.

HAVE A STAYCATION

You don’t need to hop on a plane to enjoy a little getaway. Plan a staycation where all either of you two will be worried about is each other.

GET ADVENTUROUS

Try something new. Maybe that means ice-skating, indoor sky-diving, a dinner boat cruise… anything new or fun that you both want to try out together.
